Cleansing
The weather's been pretty miserable here.
This past Saturday we had a gloomy, rainy afternoon, the perfect day to tackle an indoor project.
Ever since interviewing my latest podcast guest, Melinda Ferrier, a professional organiser & KonMari Consultant, I've been thinking it was time to push another edge and embrace the challenge of organising my clothes using this famous method.
I’ve cleared out my cupboards and culled clothes before. I've even used some of Marie Kondo's principles in these clear out sessions.
This was the first time I put ALL of the clothes I own in one pile, on my bed (& shoes on the floor).
Yikes!
What an enormous pile!
What a way to see what you own, see what you've been hiding, and find things stuffed at the back.
Yes, there was dust.
And items I’d forgotten or lost.
And some which showed their age (elastic waistbands, perished fabric in bathers, and yellowed-white materials).
Faced with this huge pile, I then systematically held and checked in with each item, to see if it sparked joy.
If it did, it was returned to a hanger, shelf or drawer in an organised way. (I did my best recall of Marie Kondo’s folding, rolling and storing process).
If not, it was thanked with gratitude, and either put in a bag to be rehomed at my next Sisters swap sesh - Friday 13th & Saturday 14th September - repurposed into a rag, or put in a pile for recycling via Upparel.
Four hours later, four bags and forty plus hangers of items were assembled ready for their next home.
I felt lighter.
Ready to take the next step.
