Meeting Elizabeth Gilbert was more than just a photo - here’s what I took away from the night
A year ago, I bought a VIP ticket to see Elizabeth Gilbert live. It wasn’t my first VIP experience, but it was the first one I had personally paid for—and it felt like a big decision. An extra $100 for a front-row seat, a photo, and a meet-and-greet with her.
At the time, I wasn’t entirely sure why I chose the most expensive ticket. I wasn’t an obsessive fan. I loved her books (Eat, Pray, Love, Committed, Big Magic) and admired her boldness, but I didn’t feel like I needed to be in the front row. Yet something deep inside nudged me to say yes.
And I’m so glad I did.
Geeking out on pleasure
I can't get enough of them.
Books that are celebrating and sharing the hidden wonder of women's bodies, and the myriad of ways we can experience pleasure.
Books revealing mind-blowing, toe curling, insanely empowering wisdom and ways that we were never taught, exposed to, or encouraged to discover.
An (im)perfect night with Gina Chick(s)
It actually was pretty perfect.
The Melbourne book launch for Gina Chick’s memoir, ‘We are the stars’.
Hosted by Hugh Van Cuylenburg, Founder of The Resilience Project and Co-host of The Imperfects Podcast, in his endearing, friendly style with generous helpings of genuine admiration for his previous, and personal favourite, podcast guest, followed by a book signing and meet and greet opportunity.
If you aren’t familiar with Gina, she was the winner of the inaugural ‘Alone Australia’ reality TV series, and the first female winner of an ‘Alone’ series anywhere in the world.
Gina survived, even thrived, as she came into the experience as a rewilding facilitator that runs Wild Heart Women’s survival quests and retreats.
Cleansing
Last Saturday was gloomy and rainy, the perfect day to tackle an indoor project.
Ever since interviewing my latest podcast guest, Melinda Ferrier, a professional organiser & KonMari Consultant, I've been thinking it was time to push another edge and embrace the challenge of organising my clothes, using this famous method.
I’ve cleared out my cupboards and culled clothes before. I've even used some of Marie Kondo's principles in these clear out sessions.
This was the first time I put ALL of the clothes I own in one pile, on my bed (& shoes on the floor).
Wicked Ways
As a five year old, I remember bonding with my new school friend as we made witchy brews.
Muddy, watery mixes of natural ingredients collected from her garden.
We were baby witches.
Yet as we grew up, Hanzel & Gretel, Sleeping Beauty and Roald Dahl’s ‘Witches’ reinforced the message that witches were villains and dangerously unhinged…
Nudie rudie
Do you feel rude if you're nude?
Like you have to apologise for the shape, size, age, colour, or health of your own nude body?
Are you judgey, critical, cruel and controlling of your skin suit?
Perhaps you ignore the feelings about your own body and instead deflect your attention to commenting on the appearance of other people’s bodies?
If you do, you're pretty normal.
Takeaways from my 12-hour walk
Two days after my 48th birthday, I did a ‘12-hour walk’.
I covered around 29km on a day that reached 35 degrees. These are my 9 takeaways from this impromptu solo experience.
Showing up - as ME
I'm taking steps to reclaim and rewrite my story about my body that’s been shaped by conditioning and criticism.
I'm coming out from behind ‘Discover Your Wild’, and sharing what I do as ME.
