Go with the flow

One of the highlights of my childhood Easter camping trips used to be floating down the middle of the murky brown Murray river on a LiLo, or inflated truck tyre inner tube, carefully avoiding submerged snags whilst fending off friends who were keen push me into the cool water, as we snaked our way around bends and past inland beaches.

We'd walk barefoot for ages along dusty tracks, balancing our air mattresses on our heads and rolling the tyre tubes erratically on the uneven ground, so we were far enough upstream to get a decent float in.

Once we launched, it never felt long before we had to madly paddle ashore at the beach where our expectant parents were flagging us down.

In these brief, wonderful adventures on the river, I felt the joy of surrendering to the flow, discovered the effort required to swim against the current, experienced the change in river speed with a change in river depth or width, and appreciated the power of this body of water when I planted my feet in the river sand.

As my friend, Jen, said on our recent Wild Beauty & Pleasure escape, our life is like a river.

It's one way, there's no turning back.

You can only see as far as the next bend, what is around the corner is unknown.

Everything changes moment by moment, nothing is ever the same.

The seasons and the surrounding environment will always have an impact.

We need to care for and appreciate our body, notice what it's telling us and adjust to the situation.

There's always a way.

Are you going with the flow? Approaching life as if it's a river?

What could you do differently?

I've been adjusting my self-imposed deadlines, trusting my intuition and practicing self-compassion.

You probably didn't notice, but I didn't publish a podcast episode last Sunday.

It felt rushed to squeeze it in so I went with the flow and pushed it back a week. It's allowed me to chat with my beautiful Mothers Group friend, Anna George, about her recently released 3rd book, 'Tipping' which cleverly unpacks and helps ‘Shine Love & Light on Invisible Systems & Inequality’. A topic I'm very passionate about, but also a super overview of this perfect page-turning and entertaining read for your Easter break.

This Easter, I hope you respond to the cues from the universe and surf the life force in the river of life.

Tune in to my conversation with Anna if you want to feel hopeful and have us pop into your lives to shine some love and light around!
