Our fairy magic
I loved being a fairy. Especially with my kindergarten bestie.
Together we were free, adventurous and sparkly.
We'd jump off boats and piers, run in the gardens of our Grandparent's coastal homes, and have so much fun.
There was an abundance of exploration, imagination and laughter.
Life was beautiful and soul FULLfilling.
Then, as we grew up, our fairy, feminine ways were overwhelmed.
We went to different schools, and my energy was put into being a good girl in a masculine co-educational system that had just accepted girls. I discovered sensitivity, vulnerability and creativity weren't valued or to be celebrated.
Over time our friendship changed. When we did see each other, I was intimidated by her bountiful energy and confidence. I didn't know how to shine my light in her presence and our connection was lost.
Last year, I found this photo and remembered those fairy feelings we shared. I felt called to reach out to her.
It was the beginning of a new chapter in our friendship.
We quickly established that 40 years on our inner fairies were VERY happy to come out and play.
Our relationship has grown ever since and our friendship has come full circle.
We now value the freedom, feminine and fairyland we celebrated back then, and embrace it in our forties.
It feels right and natural. And that's because it is.
Mother Nature embraces the masculine and feminine. Structure, focus and drive balances softness, flow and receptivity. Feminine qualities are necessary and integral aspects of healthy and harmonious relationships and lives.
Mother Nature is dynamic and evolving. Her movement is inevitable and impossible to resist. We regularly transition through phases of her cycles.
You can experience darkness and retreat, emergence and growth, birth and blooming, decay and death in your daily, lunar, menstrual, seasonal and life cycles at any time. It never really ends, there's always a new beginning.
As a 45 year old mother of a daughter entering her teenage years and becoming a woman, the role of our menstrual cycle in our lives is particularly pronounced. Our experiences of menarche, and my journey towards menopause are at the fore front of my mind. Menarche and menopause have been shamed, suppressed and misunderstood for so long, I believe it's bloody time that the power of our menstrual cycle is honoured and celebrated.
If you're like me, with a daughter in late primary or early secondary school, and you want to rewrite the story you both have around your cyclic nature, your feminine powers and sprinkle some fairy dust on the way you relate to women of all ages, come and join me for a Mother and Daughter Cycle of Life circle on Wednesday 6th October.
I'm creating this intimate circle for four Mothers and their daughters with Kathy Rowse - a divinely warm-hearted and generous soul with a passion for women's health and the power of the feminine.
She's a mother of 6 children, a grandmother, a registered nurse and a midwife with over 30 years experience. She's got an abundance of love and experience to share and I'm very excited to be able to host this special evening with her.
You can register your interest and check out more details below. If you don't have a daughter, or one this age, please share it with the women in your life that do! We need more of these spaces for connection and conversation around our feminine cycles!
And, if this isn't for you, I invite you to notice your awareness of your feminine and cyclic nature.
Here are some questions to think about:
Do you celebrate your feminine energy and qualities?
Do you give yourself time to hang out in your feminine? Think about what lights you up, what are your favourite things to do, what would you do if you could embrace your inner child and play in your very own fairyland!
Do you value your feminine characteristics as much as your masculine ones?
Are you aware of where you are in the various cycles of your life?
How could you embrace and align yourself with the natural cycles surrounding you?
How you can bring your masculine and feminine energies into balance?
Stopping to pause and notice will make a huge difference.
If you'd to talk through any of this, please reach out. I'd be happy to have a chat and, if relevant, point you in the direction of resources and options to explore this further.
It's time to sprinkle some magic fairy dust around and shine love and light on our feminine and cyclic superpowers!
