It feels uncomfortable
She was surprisingly heavy, smooth and effortlessly powerful.
As soon as this Olive python was draped around my neck she wrapped herself around me with a claustrophobic squeeze (you can see the tip of her tail on my right shoulder - she had me completely wrapped up!)
It was alarmingly quick and disconcerting.
Thankfully, the charming handler told me not to worry, she was just getting close because I was hot! As a cold-blooded reptile, she was sensibly soaking up my warmth.
Haha, and ppphew!
Not only did that reassure me, but I also took it as a compliment!
A few years ago, I feared snakes.
I was ok to see them in an enclosure, or at a distance in the wild, but I wasn't about to touch one or allow it to hang on my body!
As with a lot of things we fear, I'd been taught to fear them.
We all are.
Snakes are dangerous. Evil. One tempted Eve to eat the forbidden apple. You don't get much worse than that!
When the Wildlife Exposure reptile crew showed up at the caravan park we stayed at during the recent school holidays (and ran a thoroughly entertaining and educational show btw), I jumped at the opportunity to get over my fear of snakes.
These past few years I've learned to fully appreciate the value of facing our fears, getting interested in the truth around the ‘story’ we attach to a situation, and breathing through the discomfort.
As with most fears that we conjure up in our minds, when I faced it, it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.
It was strangely exhilarating.
As it turns out, we grow, feel alive and access our creativity through discomfort.
Last year, when I did William Whitecloud's course, ‘Create Your Destiny’, one of my biggest takeaways was the realisation that tension, the uncomfortable feeling of being in limbo between my current reality and my visions for the future, is where the magic happens.
The tension is where we get access to our creative force.
It's what takes us from being a victim of our circumstances to the creator and cause of our life.
Basically, we've all been told a lie to follow what makes us feel good. To move away from what seems bad, dark, or uncomfortable.
Our thoughts and feelings mislead us.
They're based on our past, what we've been taught, not on what's actually in front of us.
They're not what real, or what's possible.
What's real is what lights us up. What's aligned with our heart and soul. It makes us feel expansive.
It's not what makes us feel comfortable.
It takes practice.
And it's always there.
I'm always sitting in uncertainty!
‘Who'll read this?’
‘Will anyone join me for the one-day retreats I've created?’ (If you want to, more info is below!)
‘Who'll join our Clubhouse rooms next week?’ (They'll be juicy convos! We're talking about Pleasure & Play - and toys! Pop in Monday 12.30pm, Tuesday 10.30am or Wednesday 4pm. You don't have to say anything, you can listen and learn! If you have an iPhone and want an invite, message me!)
'Will I upset anyone with my opinions, views, or direction?' (Sorry, not sorry!)
‘Should I run another series of my Sexy, Soulful Sessions and rename them Discover Your Power?’'
OMG, the thoughts and mind chatter don't stop.
But I focus on the end result.
Being free, fully self-expressed, and at the heart of a sisterhood of wise, generous, wild women.
Focusing on generating abundance, love, and beauty by awakening women to their power and infinite potential.
Being creative, connected, and conscious.
It's not easy. But it's energising.
Hon, life begins at the edge of your comfort zone.
Life = uncomfortable.
But that's what makes it electrifying and extraordinary.
And that's success in my book.
